Incarnation of Lord Dhanwantari
Lord Dhanvantari, as per the Vedas and Puranas (scriptures), is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is said to be the God of Ayurvedic medicine and the physician of the Gods. Lord Dhanwantari is worshiped by devotees for seeking his blessings and for sound health. According to Shrimad Bhagwat and Sushrut Samhita, Lord Dhanwantari emerged from the ocean with a pot of amrita (nectar) when the ocean of milk was churned by the devas and the asuras for amrita. He is portrayed as “Chatur Bahu” Vishnu (with four hands), holding medicinal herbs in one hand, a pot containing rejuvenating nectar called amrita (nectar) in another, a conch shell in another hand, and sacred scriptures in his fourth hand. Lord Dhanvantari protects all living beings from diseases, untimely death and eliminates sorrows.
